Abstract

This study delves into the evaluation of community engagement strategies in India aimed at mitigating the far-reaching impacts of chemical industry disasters. India, a rapidly developing nation with a growing chemical industry, faces significant challenges in disaster management in this sector. Through a comprehensive analysis of case studies and empirical data, this research examines the multifaceted aspects of community engagement, including risk communication, disaster preparedness, and collaborative decision-making. It highlights the importance of tailored communication approaches to account for India's cultural diversity and regional disparities, ensuring that risk information is accessible and comprehensible to all. The study underscores the crucial roles of local government and community-based organizations in facilitating effective engagement initiatives and addresses obstacles like bureaucratic complexities and resource constraints. By establishing a framework for measuring the effectiveness of community engagement in the Indian context, this research offers invaluable guidance to policymakers, chemical industry stakeholders, and community leaders, ultimately contributing to enhanced disaster resilience and safety in communities affected by chemical industry disasters in India.
